Omnitron - Masterpeace

A grrroovy hot mess of an album from former Krixhjalters members. Ukeleles, big brass, 8bit, trip-hop, a woplopadobop, treat yourself to a grab-bag of plunderphonix and meaty riffs. Things really start stomping in tunes like "I Am He"where technojabbers roll into an accordian dirge that would make Sammy Sousa proud. "Eroticon's" Nordic-Boy take on Acid Bath may just bring down the house, but then here comes a sweet Maiden lead section to send gooseskin up your arm. A ripping cover of Ace of Spades wraps things up, proving that yes these guys do have taste. At least as much fun as GuineaPig Assasinator and right up there with Fable Frolic as well, in fact this is one of the greatest Swedish metal releases ever...believe it!

Schismatic - Circle Of Evolution

Feral primeval athropormorphic death metal that will leave you in a bloody heap...Schismatic just drips with atmosphere...riffs of destruction seethe and hiss like billous fluids pussing from a stuck hog. You really can't expect any less from a Polish death metal band circa '93, now can you?

Breaker - Coffee Breaker

If you liked the French Nardwuar, you're sure to love Matt the Cat's interview with essential Cleveland metal band Breaker (best band to form during a clambake) during their 1983 Coffee Breaker concert. Jim the Ham Hamar Done Pepe DePew and crew tear it up while trying to ward off moistness.

Za Frumi - Za Shum Ushatar Uglakh

Ha haha this band is crazy! You think Summoning is obsessed with LOTR, this band takes it to a whole nother level! The vocalizations are a highlight as it's all in orcish complete with wildass orc intonations. Hilarious, mesmerizing and delightful!

Happy International RUSH day folks!

Peste Noire - L'Ordure à l'état Pur

Everything and the kitchen sink black metal from these French bastards. Maybe too ambitious for it’s own good, but goddamn when they hit the ball they hit it hard. There are some absolute jaw droppin moments on here, of course you might have to wade through aliittttle bit of crap to get to them. I’ve always had a soft spot for Peste Noire, so I can overlook the bad and the ugly….oh shit, who am I kidding, it’s all ugly (but in a totally good way of course).

Obscenity - Human Barbecue

One of the many noteworthy bands from the German scene, these guys play their style of brutal Suffocation inspired death metal well (complete with wonderful Mike Smith styled blasts!), and they play it with a modicum of pizzazz (especially the epic beginning to the title track). They finish things off with a rip-roaring cover of Raining Blood, so maybe not the most original band, but satisfying nonetheless...actually, listening to this is making me hungry for some BBQ.

Purgatory - Psychopathia sexualis

Gonna keep the German death metal thing goin' here with the ripping dripping nastiness of Purgatory's Psychopathia sexualis (scientifically named of course). Given the artwork and album title you'd be forgiven for thinking this is some Cannibal Corpse Wretched Prawn knockoff, one that is content with wallowing in cliched B movie gore, but this right here is some seriously slithering Lovecraftian gore. Full of wicked tendrils, untamed lust, and priapic animism (conjuring up images from a recent novellete I read called The Cannibal Within). It begins with the dynamism of the riffs...extended phrasing is used much as Atrocity did on Hallucinations, but advanced guitar lines will writhe into Autopsy cum Celtic Frost sludge instead of the jazzy leanings of their Kraut brethren. The vocals are incredibly forceful and deep; whilst retaining a rasping bite that cuts quick to your core...I'm even going so far as to say that they are unique in the realm of death metal...I don't think I've ever heard another grunter with soooo much bite to his hogcall. Atmospherically, this is some dense shit, in league with Darkthrone's Soulside Journey and Hallucinations....showing that a German death metal ep from '94 with a crudely drawn cover and dodgy outro has more than enough charms to bang with the big boys.

Melancholy Pessimism - Evil Planet

Even more Czech grind goodness for your pleasure. Nabbed this one over at one of my favorite new blogs Utvær!, do check that one out cuz that guy definitely posts some unique stuff...Melancholy Pessimism is cut from the same cloth as Alientation Mental, but a bit more death leaning, kind of like those other Czech hogs Pigsty from my Baconalia post a while back. Very cool, very inventive, and they play hands down the best cover of Battery I have ever heard.

Baconalia - A Celebration

Taking a little bit of a break from Swedish DM week (which is fast spreading over two months!!), and a little bit of a detour as well...But I'm not done celebrating the Swedes just yet...oh no, there is just too much quality hitz out there.
Speaking of quality, Denny's is full swing into a celebration of their own, a celebration of all that is unkosher...Baconalia.
Yes, it's Denny's aim to prune the US population by stuffing them full of cured fatty meat deliciousness.
In case you have doubts about Denny's intentions to put you in an early grave, I have three words for you...Maple. Bacon. Sundae.

It's delicious, it's none too nutritious, and it is every bit as ridiculous to eat as you would think.
God bless you Denny's. I offer up a duo of pig grindcore albums as thanks.

Lost Horizon - Awakening The World

OTT Power Metal from some cape wearing Swedes.  The cover art is fantastic and involves further inspection...not sure exactly whats going on there...
