Good things on the Whorizon

Wetwork - New Start Human

Creepy Canuck tech-thrash...prbly better than the vp debate.

New Start Human

Mechanical Mind

Judging by this song we're looking at 2013 album of the year folks. The boys' still got it!!!

Project: Kill

Hmmmmmmmm.......

Will it be decent? Will it suck ballz? At least this doesn't sound emo-metalcore...whatever, I'll always give Flo the benefit of the doubt. The man is a blastbeat machine.

Dyoxen - First Among Equals

Just remembered it's Canada Day, so to celebrate our neighbors to the north I'm posting some impossibly obscure technothrash from Montreal's own Dyoxen. Now if there is one thing that Canadians (specifically Quebecois) do well, it is left-of-center, incredibly progressive thrash...think Voivod, think Obliveon, think DBC, and well then just keeep thinking man cuz this is thinking man's metal...not for the weak of mind, or weak of heart.

First Among Equals

Psychicthrob - Bursting Dementia

So I thought why not post another Gorguts related band to go along with Purulence. Psychicthrob was bass player Steve (not to be confused with Steeve) Cloutier's band before he joined up with Monsieur LeMay and old bandmate Stephane Provencher (who drummed in pre-Psychicthrob band Damaged). You know Cloutier, he of the clunking idiosyncratic bass lines that meandered and perplexed on Obscura and From Wisdom To Hate. Well 1991's Bursting Dementia demo is nothing like that....basically this is Leprosy/Spiritual Healing worship with thrashy vox. Very good stuff with excellent sound for a demo, and some interesting tech/atmospheric parts that remind me of Morgue's Eroded Thoughts even though I'm not entirely sure why.

Bursting Dementia Demo '91

Purulence

Thought I'd post a couple of tunes from Big Steeve's pre-Gorguts band Purulence...disgustingly filthy old school death with a distinct Profanatica/Incatation feel. The second track is definitely more epic and atmospheric in a style that resembles Steeve's performance on Gorguts' Obscura.

R.I.P. Big Steeve

So sad to say that Steeve Hurdle of Gorguts and Negative passed on. An incredible guitar player and unique prescence in the metal world, Hurdle will most certainly be missed. RIP Big Steeve

Razor - Malicious Intent

Now this is some damn good trash metal...and fuck the haters, M-Bro's drumming is the bomb.

Malicious Intent

Voivod - Killing Technology

or this one goddammit...they're gonna doit to you to you to you to you to you to you to you to you  to you to you to you to you to you to you to you TOO YOUUUU!!!

Killing Technology

Xynfonica - A Feast For Famished Ravens

Tardcore has been ramped up a notch brothers and sisters. Improvised guitar-synths, after hours jazz and creepy growled intonations. Put out by the always solid Hekaloth. Handle with cares.

A SLoppy Feast

Rowsdower - Demo 2011

I just found out about this stoner-psyche band from the good ol' STL. That they call themselves Rowsdower (after the infamous character Zap from MST3K's riff-tastic treatment of oddball Canadian cult fav The Final Sacrifice) is just the icing on the cake. Great guitar work, really cool stuff!

Poppin' A RUSH-Hog

Happy International RUSH day folks!

2/1/12

Absonant Cadence - Inside Out-Life

This Canuck band played some very imaginitive, technical death metal... unfortunately the production really, really sucks.  But that's OK! If you're like me, sometimes you listen to music for the ideas in it and not the overall sound, and believe me, there are about a million ideas flying around here.

Inside Out-Life

Martyr - Warp Zone

Technical mastery par excellence from one of Canada's best.

Warp Zone

Cryptopsy - Whisper Supremacy

Imagine...there was a time when Cryptopsy was the baddest death metal band in the land. Back when eye's glowed bright and Flo was rockin' the Umbro gear.

Whisper Supremacy

Frozen Shadows - Hantises

More fuckin' cold weather...freezin' my hantises off over here!!

Hantises

Cephalectomy - Eclipsing The Dawn

These Nova Scotian death-grind freaks pick up where Kataklysm left off on their classick Temple of Knowledge.  Outlandish and titillating Northern Mystigrind!
