Recent excursions into soft grunge and so called pastel goth have left me clamboring for some blazing raw experimental Czech black metal, and hot damn do Morlok deliver! Distraught melodies, sizzlingly off-kilter drum programming and an overall alien industrial vibe that never forgoes the outright thrashiness that defines the awesomeness that IS Czech black metal!! Fuck, they even throw in a bit of unclean "When Johnny comes Stomping Home" folk jazz on some of these cuts. More fun than an extraterrestrial nocturnal snipe hunt and definitely for fans of Blacklodge, Mysticum, Meatballs and dat Sabbatic Goat.

Alien Crucifixion - Relics of a Dark Star
Raped by Xenu, Enslaved by Reptoids...no not the latest Gloria Estefan album, just some maniacal grindcore from where else but Roswell, NM. And you know it's pretty good too. Good for those late night X-Files marathons where you just want to mute the sound and revel in some Agent Scully. You might be able to get a little Wizard of Oz/DSoftheM type of thing going on tooo.

Agent Steel - Order of the Illuminati
This is a ripper. Prog-thrash with an excruciatingly heavy production. Brucie Boy's soooaaaarring vox and lyrical themes are out of this world, literally. Cosmic flights of fancy that by this time were Agent Steel's niche...their ace in the hole. Order of the Illuminati is a total win, I could listen to a song like Insurrection or Human Bullet a 100x over and not tire of it...a true testament to how amazing this band really is.

Agent Steel - Omega Conspiracy
The Agent Steel boyz dropped Cyris somewhere over Alpha Centauri and picked up top-notch vocalist Bruce Hall along the way.

Sound Barrier - Speed Of Light
Fly me off into space with this one baby, from L.A. sleazy, progressive....and hey, the world's first all-black hard rock band signed to a major label!
Agent Steel - Unstoppable Force
I don't think an album title has ever described it's music soo perfectly. Let wildman Cyris take you on an epic journey cross hither & yon.

Pestilence - Spheres
One of the most polarizing death metal albums ever made...but don't be swayed by the naysayers, personally this is my favorite of theirs. And of course we all know golden boy went on to Kraut tech-deathsters Obscura. Newer Pestilence blows balls...Older Pestilence is cool but doesn't really do it for me...Spheres is oh so weird and juuuuust right.

Paralysis - Visions
The Dutch were very very good at technothrash. Paralysis is just one of many...Mystrez --- Imperium --- Osiris --- Rhadamantys --- I could go on (and I will, don't worry). Their debut ep Arctic Sleep was a stunner and Visions ain't no slouch. Same vocalist, so you know there is some obtuse caterwaulin' goin' down. The song "Escape From Yesterday" absolutely has to be heard to be believed.

Sortilege - Metamorphose
Some more AMAZING cover artwork and AMAZING tunes courtesy of French bastards Sortilege. Metamorphose was their debut album from way back in 1984 and is nothing but pure class through and through...stinging powerful vox and riffs to bang your head for days. Probably the best French export since Courvoisier.

Suuri Shamaani - Mysteerien Maailma
Mo Finnish madness minimalism, this time from Beherit mainman Nuclear Holocausto. Even drone afficianados might hate this, but then again folks who are into drone hate just about everything so this might get a pass.

Ferocity - Puzzled Into Various Spaces
Ferocious...puzzling...spacey....all worthy adjectives to describe this incredibly obscure '97 German tech death/jazz dream. This is some unsettling shit all built around Cynic/Atheist style guitar acrobatics with an atonal avant-garde edge that places it on the weirder side of Pestilence's oft-maligned (but incredible nonetheless) Spheres. This is somehow even more "out-there" than any of those bands...if you don't believe, make sure to check out the incredibly fucked and un-fuckable with 10 minute closer "Yellow Puzzle"...it is fantastic, and addicting with half-sung vocals incoherently riding over unintelligible death growls, clean guitar passages and jazz bass fucking with your mind...ridiculous abstract/poetic lyrics about nature. I can't say enough good things about this demo....the only thing this band released by the way. Some members would go on to play with Necrophagist right around the release of Onset of Putrefaction...but I prefer Puzzled to anything by them. A technical masterpiece abstracted and reassembled by psychos. I can't recommend this enough!!
