Recent excursions into soft grunge and so called pastel goth have left me clamboring for some blazing raw experimental Czech black metal, and hot damn do Morlok deliver! Distraught melodies, sizzlingly off-kilter drum programming and an overall alien industrial vibe that never forgoes the outright thrashiness that defines the awesomeness that IS Czech black metal!! Fuck, they even throw in a bit of unclean "When Johnny comes Stomping Home" folk jazz on some of these cuts. More fun than an extraterrestrial nocturnal snipe hunt and definitely for fans of Blacklodge, Mysticum, Meatballs and dat Sabbatic Goat.

Another strange, strange release by these Columbian shamans. Reencarnacion's debut 888Metal was black/thrash as filtered through European RIO, Egipto does away with nearly all of the metal influence, instead we are put on a spirtiual avant-garde journey that is more Basho than Bathory. Maybe comparisons can be made to the controversial MH album Slagry, but that shit was structured, Reencarnacion are improvising and riffing all over the place. This has to be improvised, if they actually structured these tunes they should be locked up for crimes against humanity (or given some kind of genius grant, I really can't decide)....Much like the cover image, Egipto is completely fucked and unexpected stuff!

Found out about this one-man droning mess from the Obscuro! blog, which is awesome. This just might be the creepiest cover art ever. Hard to describe band, but the music fits the artwork so you can judge this book by it's cover...Erik Thomas of Teeth of the Divine zine describes these Italians as "Yakuza meets Circle Takes the Square meets DHG meets Isis meets Japanese Torture Comedy Hour meets Jean Michele Jarre". I only like half those things, and I pretty much only like half of this, but its is scritchin' that itch for the bizarre pretty good at this moment.

Hoppy Easter everyone, while you're busy shoving creme eggs down into your thorax, I'm gonna share a little bit of Columbian Ultra Metal history with you. Parabellum (Latin for "Into Battle") was the nastiest, darkest, and flat out most destructive proto-black metal band to come out of little old Medellin, COL. Only releasing these 2 eps in '87 and '88 (a grand total of 4 trax!) their legacy is still firmly entrenched. You think old Sepultura was dangerous? Sarcofago? Compared to Parabellum they were merely playing with matches because this is music that is not merely played...it is convulsed...a raw bloody mess of guitar torture and hellish blasphemy. The only band I can even compare Parabellum to is the equally fucked Peruvian Hadez. This is the sound of insane primitive brutality the way it has to be.
