Olympic - Zelva

A bit of a history lesson here in the form of these Czech psych greats debut album from 1968. Funky, fresh and formidable, Zelva set the stage for all these great Czech bands you hear today, and of course introduced an unsuspecting world to Mr. Petr "Krest" Janda...but that is a tale for a different time...

Adrian Belew - Lone Rhino

Adrian Belew was a simple Kentucky boy who rose to fame as a wild-ass guitarist (and vocalist) for Zappa, Talking Heads and later on the legendary King Crimson. Lone Rhino is his first solo offering full of magical wistful numbers that seem to conjure the pizaaz he would dose out on Crimson discs Discipline and THRAK.... Animal Grace is a hard driving piece with a twisted melody line and bold vocals, Adidas in Heat reminds me of the Seinfeld theme song, while the title track renders a pathos that belies its humorous subject matter. This is definitely a weird album, but it's a grower.

Victor Wooten - Soul Circus

Good ol' Vic Tooten Wooten. Buck-toothed bassist extraordinaire lets his inner funkadelic shine through. You can tell Vic absolutely adores Bootsy Collins. This is a straight up fun album, although there are few cringe-worthy moments, especially the so awful its brilliant "Cell-Phone". Vic is like a man possessed on that fretboard.  Get him and Buddha Dickens in a room together and see what happens.
