Inquisition - Forever Under/Anxious Death

Before Inquisition played droning transcendental black metal, they played equally amazing tech-thrash...and called Columbia home! Truly one of my favs, I feel bad I missed em at St. Vitus (less than a mile down the road from me ugh!) this past weekend, but here's a vid from the show...unfortunately I don't think they played anything from Forever Under...

Breaker - Coffee Breaker

If you liked the French Nardwuar, you're sure to love Matt the Cat's interview with essential Cleveland metal band Breaker (best band to form during a clambake) during their 1983 Coffee Breaker concert. Jim the Ham Hamar Done Pepe DePew and crew tear it up while trying to ward off moistness.

Spotlight On: Columbian SewerGrind

So obviously Columbian metal is some sick and twisted stuff, here is yet more evidence. I like the way slam-minded blogspot really nails down the aesthetic..."raw production, loud, pingy snare and mediocre vocals" haha! If you love this sound (I really do) then these albums will be right up your alley. I hope the secret service was listening to some sewer grind while they were nailing those prostitutes and possibly giving up crucial details detrimental to our national security...ENJOY!!

Reencarnacion - 888 Metal

More Columbian Ultra Metal History Madness, this time courtesy of Medellin's own Reencarnacion. This band is AMAZING, sounding close to RIO free-jazz sometimes...1988's 888Metal (get it?) actually reminds me of a more dangerous Master's Hammer or demo era Root! One could draw many parallels between the burgeoning S.A. death/thrash scene and the Eastern Europeans. Add a little bit of wackiness that would fit right in with any of the Black Legiones bands and you're right on track. For instance, take the tune II Parte...the violin/guitar duel is like Comus raping Mayhem's Necrobutcher while Art Zoyd provides color commentary. An underground classic of pure wacky idiosyncratic thrash.

Parabellum

Hoppy Easter everyone, while you're busy shoving creme eggs down into your thorax, I'm gonna share a little bit of Columbian Ultra Metal history with you. Parabellum (Latin for "Into Battle") was the nastiest, darkest, and flat out most destructive proto-black metal band to come out of little old Medellin, COL. Only releasing these 2 eps in '87 and '88 (a grand total of 4 trax!) their legacy is still firmly entrenched. You think old Sepultura was dangerous? Sarcofago? Compared to Parabellum they were merely playing with matches because this is music that is not merely played...it is convulsed...a raw bloody mess of guitar torture and hellish blasphemy. The only band I can even compare Parabellum to is the equally fucked Peruvian Hadez. This is the sound of insane primitive brutality the way it has to be.

Mental Apraxia - Cinical-Hypocritical Existence

Featuring the drummer from Mindly Rotten, so you know it's good and fast godammit! Also, how bout that cover art...brutal as hell fuckers.

Ancient Necropsy - Deformed King´s Mummification

Incredible one man deth grind with a bit of melodic black metal flair, and of course infected throughout with that inexplicable brand of Columbian weirdness. Mr. Ivancient is to be commended for his absolutely impeccable performance on all instruments of torture...on later releases he was joined by the drummer from sewer dwellers Masturbation, but for my money it doesn't get any better than DefKMum. One of the highlights from the stellar Goregiastic roster. Enjoy!

Masturbation - Putrid Vaginal Infibulation

Masturbation, more like BLASTurbation...yes, I'm now fairly certain the Columbians do indeed sprinkle a bit of cocaine on their cornflakes every morning. It must be true, there is no other way to explain the hyped up battery that our bros. to the south deal out. Putrid Vaginal Infibulation is aesthetically perfect in every way...sounds like it was recorded in a sewer, vocals incoherently barfed out, space slam guitars a blur of downtuned semi-tech nonsense...and that snare. oh that snare. Sooo reverbed and high in the mix that it sounds like two giant tin cans rattling incessantly on both sides of your head. What a dynamite sound!!

Mindly Rotten - Proliferation Of Disaster

Lately I have been head over heals with Columbian metal, particularly of the brutal brooootal variety. Not normally my bag, but the Columbians do it like nobody else. Case in point the boys' from Mindly Rotten. Imagine the blasphemous primitivity of Sarcofago manifest through the dexterous digits of a Necrophagist. This band is flat out fireworks.
