Psyche Out: Don Bradshaw-Leather - Distance Between Us

Dark Psychedelia will be the name of the game around here for a little bit, and I wanted to start things out with an enigmatic album that I just recently stumbled upon: Don Bradshaw and a gal named Leather's soul-occult psyche freakout from '72. It's difficult to even describe this. I can only say it is haunting, powerful, horrific, insane, beautiful....I could go on but I think I'll stop right there. Do some research on this guy, it's fascinating the conjecture and mythology that people go into. Does no one actually know who this was?!? Anyway, I've been listening to these youtube clips the past few daze and I advise you to do the same. No link, but music this ephemeral should not sit on your computer anyway, it should settle deep in your mind only to come alive during those darkest moments when surreality can offer the only escape.

Peter Evans Quintet - Ghosts

Been listening to this awesome jazz on a fairly regular basis since I found out about it. Swings hard with lots of skrees and skronks, bleeps and blops. Evans is a fairly young guy too. Hope to hear alot more from him and this quintet.

Semen Datura - Einsamkeit

Dissonance is a tricky thing in black metal, play your cards right and you end up sounding like Semen Datura's 2009 opus Einsamkeit (play em wrong and you end up sounding like any of a number of weak ass LLN imitators). Never content to stay in one register, SD mix it up between atonal thrash riffs, dissonant blasting sections and major chord progressions (sometimes a folk sound will creep in), similar to how Sculptured operated on their last few albums. A strange, creepy, technically proficient album that will keep you coming back for more.

Ingurgitating Oblivion - Voyage Towards Abhorrence

On this daze of thanx, as you ingurgitate yourself into oblivion on your fried brined roast and butter-infused giblets, feast your ears on this turkey...an overflowing cornucopia of Cryptopsy-esque slam-tech-vortexian death. Sure to put a smile on your loved ones faces' and turn them into a quivering pile of smashed pertaters.

For those of you that just can't get enough Zeitgeister musick. Island is pretty much the same peeps that are involved in Woburn House and Valborg playing pretty much the same sort of avant death metal. A more condensed version of the Monstrous Manoeuvres album with more blastbeats. Can't beat it.

Moriorr - Cholera

Idiosyncratic Czech thrash from '89 with a sometimes doomy-dissonant atmosphere and a vocalist that's a dead-ringer for Attila Csihar. Unique sounding to say the least!

Abigor - Satanized (A Journey Through Cosmic Infinity)

Abigor have never released a bad album...just albums of varying degrees of greatness. Satanized is one of their stronger efforts for sure, in fact for a while I thought it was their swansong as they broke up soon after its release (thankfully they got back together and recorded the stunningly ballsout Fractal Possession).
You can chart Abigor's career much as you can chart the progression of civilization. Abigor began in the forest (Verwustung), man began in the forests...gathered into feudal groups during the Middle ages (medieval themes of Nachthymnen through Channeling the Quintessence of Satan)...and after some technological advancements reached out into the cosmos (this album and thereafter).
Never had Abigor been this technical in their approach, veering at times towards math metal territory. One may at times get the impression that this is the black metal version of Calculating Infinity.
Don't fight the chaos, just sit back and let the convoluted guitar work wash over you, beckoning you into the polluted morass of an erupted supernova...the entropic din of a maelstrom reaching beyond this terrestrial realm; probing the neutrinos of ascendance for the Evil that lurks among the stars.

Nothing like waking up on a Sunday morning having some hair of the dog that bit ya (A&W with peppermint schnapps) nukin' up some sausage slim jims and coffee creamer with frito scoop chips and listening to this mess.  Oh and what do we have for desert here...Marlboro Menthols

My Deutsch is a bit rusty, but I believe it means "Duty to Destroy the Beautiful"  if this is the intention, then L'Hiver and friends certainly succeed.  Foul and dissonant while maintaining a hobbled languorous demeanor. Like an old curmudgeon rocking on his porch muttering insults at the world passing by...
